Getting started
Keep passwords and logins in a private vault
Save passwords, tokens, and website logins in one place, then find them with labels and search. You can start in LocalDB with a Google account.

What this guide covers
Save passwords, tokens, and website logins in one place, then find them with labels and search. You can start in LocalDB with a Google account.
- Sign in with Google
- Choose the right item type
- Save your first item
- Copy, edit, and delete
- Organize with labels
- Find items with fuzzy search
Passwords, API tokens, recovery codes, and license keys are easy to lose when they are scattered across notes and messages. LocalDB gives you one personal vault for that information. Stored values are encrypted for your account, and there are no public links or team-sharing features.
After saving the first item, compare Cloud and Local storage and learn how to save and fill website credentials with the Chrome extension.
This guide goes from signing in to saving, copying, organizing, and finding your first items.
1. Sign in with Google
Open localdb.io and select Start with Google. LocalDB does not have a separate email-and-password signup. Choose the Google account you want to use and your vault opens.
The main screen contains a search box, a labels menu, settings, your profile, and a New item (+) card. The bottom shows your current item count and account limit.
2. Choose the right item type
Select New item (+) and choose General data or Site autofill.
General data
Use general data for API tokens, recovery codes, license keys, and private key-value notes. Name, ID (key), and value are required; description and labels are optional. General data does not appear in the Chrome extension’s autofill list.
Site autofill
Use site autofill for website sign-in details. Enter a name, site URL, email or ID, and password. The Chrome extension can match the saved domain to the current page and fill its login fields.
You can enter https://example.com or example.com. Matching uses the domain, so you do not need to include a path such as /login.
3. Save your first item
- Select New item (+).
- Choose an item type.
- Enter its name and required values.
- Add a description or labels that will help you find it later.
- Select Add.
You can save several accounts for the same site. Give each one a clear name such as “Personal” or “Work” so it is easy to choose in the extension.
4. Copy, edit, and delete
Cards do not show the password or stored value in plain view. Use the copy icon to place the value on the clipboard.
Select a card to open the edit panel. You can change its details, copy the value, or delete the item. LocalDB has no trash or undo screen, so create a backup before deleting important information. See Back up password data and restore it.
5. Organize with labels
Open the menu at the upper left to create labels such as Work, Personal, Development, or Finance. Select existing labels when editing an item, or enter new ones separated by commas.
Removing a label from the label list does not delete its items.
6. Find items with fuzzy search
Search covers names, IDs, descriptions, labels, site addresses, and item types. It can return close matches when the spelling is not exact.
Passwords and the contents of stored values are not searchable. Put words you are likely to remember in the name, description, or labels.
If the list looks empty, clear the search first. In Cloud mode, you can also use Resync all at the bottom if an item saved on another device has not appeared.
7. Before you continue
- LocalDB is currently free.
- General and site-autofill items share a limit of 1,000 items per account.
- There are no public pages, folder publishing, member invitations, or team sharing.
- Signing out does not remove every cached item from that browser. On a shared computer, also use Purge local browser data in Settings.
To decide where your vault should be stored, continue with Choose Cloud or Local storage.
